Illegale Drogen

Als Droge werden im heutigen deutschen Sprachgebrauch stark wirksame psychotrope Substanzen und Zubereitungen aus solchen bezeichnet. Allgemein weisen Drogen eine bewusstseins- und wahrnehmungsverändernde Wirkung auf.

Mit Drogenhandel ist der Kauf und Verkauf von illegalen Drogen (z. B. Heroin, Kokain, Opium, Haschisch) ohne Erlaubnis der zuständigen Behörden gemeint. Der Drogenhandel in diesem Sinne gilt als ein Teilbereich der Drogenkriminalität.

Viele Drogen (vornehmlich Marihuana und amphetaminartige Stimulanzien wie Speed und Ecstasy) werden überwiegend und zunehmend in dem Land produziert, in dem sie auch konsumiert werden und tragen damit nicht wesentlich zum internationalen Drogenhandel bei. Dies verhält sich bei Drogen anders, deren weltweite Produktion sich auf wenige Länder oder Regionen konzentriert; hier sind insbesondere das aus dem Opium hergestellte Heroin sowie das Kokain bedeutsam.

Der mit Abstand weltweit bedeutendste Opiumproduzent ist Afghanistan, gefolgt von Myanmar, Mexiko und Kolumbien. Die Hauptabnehmer für Heroin sind Westeuropa, wohin die Droge über den Iran, die Türkei und den Balkan gelangt, sowie Russland. Kokain wird vor allem in den Andenstaaten produziert, wobei Kolumbien, Peru und Bolivien die größten Erzeuger sind. Das Kokain wird über Transitländer in Mittelamerika beziehungsweise der Karibik zu den Hauptabnehmern Nordamerika und Europa geschmuggelt.
